Maddie Talbert earns 2nd, Taylor Jackson 3rd

Congratulations to WHS junior Taylor Mitchell: first place winner in the local 2017 VFW Voice of Democracy speech/essay contest!

Mitchell gave a speech about her responsibility to America. She made the point that she has many privileges as an American, and she has a responsibility to not waste those privileges and resources. She also made a great point of challenging others to do likewise.

Senior Maddie Talbert won second place, and freshman Jackson Taylor won third. Each of these students were given a cash prize. Mitchell and Taylor, along with their families and WHS Speech Instructor Cherie Johnson, attended the VFW sponsored award ceremony and enjoyed the pizza afterwards!
