WMS Principal Marc Kaminski

Welcome to Wahoo Middle School

We're going to STEP IT UP this school year!

Welcome to another AWESOME school year at Wahoo Middle School. With the many challenges facing our families, students, and staff this school year, we are going to encourage our students to “Step It Up.” Our mission will not only be to motivate students to improve academic performance, but also take on more responsibility for making positive and healthy decisions as it relates to their everyday lives. We are fortunate to live in a strong and caring community, and together we will not only face our challenges, we will overcome them.

During this unprecedented time, we want to make sure that you are well-informed and understand our efforts to maintain a continuity of learning for our students this school year. School leaders and staff have developed plans this school year to provide educational opportunities, while respecting the guidelines established during this pandemic.

With that being said, we are requesting your assistance this school year with supporting our efforts to not only keep students in school, but ensure the safety and well being of ALL students and staff. We will expect that every student follows the guidelines and procedures listed below during our school day with regards to COVID-19. Please know that I am always available to discuss any questions or concerns related to serving you and the students of Wahoo Middle School.

COVID-19 DISTRICT REOPENING PLAN

A school district guidance document is posted on the school website and social media pages for review and information. This document will be used to provide broad parameters as to the operation of the district. We encourage you to review the document and refer any questions you have to your building principal or the superintendent of schools.

SCHOOL DAY GUIDELINES FOR COVID-19

  • Students are expected to wear masks when reasonable and appropriate. Students are encouraged to bring their own masks. The school will provide masks to students if needed.

  • Social distancing (6 feet) will be practiced consistently throughout the school day.

  • Commons areas in the school building will be closed. Students will need to be in their assigned areas at all times during the school day.

  • Hand washing and/or hand sanitizer will be highly encouraged.

PARENT PRE-SCREENING OF STUDENTS (to be done at home by parents)

  • Has the child been in close contact, without a mask, of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19?

  • Does the child currently have a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater?

  • Does the child currently exhibit any of the following symptoms:

    • Frequent cough

    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

    • Unusually sore throat

    • Unexplained sore chest

    • Loss of taste and/or smell

    • Diarrhea or nausea

**In assessing the other symptoms, these would be symptoms uncharacteristic of the student. Especially during the fall allergy season, a runny nose, sore throat, or cough may be commonplace for the student.

If any student, staff member, or visitor is displaying COVID-19 symptoms or has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days, they may be excluded. Parents/guardians will be notified, and the student will need to be picked up as soon as possible. Parents/guardians should contact their healthcare provider for further direction.

RETURN FROM EXCLUSION

If untested for COVID-19, a student may return when:

1. They have not had a fever for at least 72 hours, without use of medication,

2. Other symptoms (if present) have improved, OR

3. They have written approval for returning to school by their healthcare provider.

If tested positive for COVID-19, they may return when they have written approval by a healthcare provider or the local health department.

Once again, welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. Everyone at Wahoo Middle School is looking forward to getting back into the classroom as we work with your child and family. I wish you all good health, and we look forward to a challenging, but productive school year.

Sincerely,
Marc Kaminski, Wahoo Middle School Principal
