4 Wahoo students capture 1st place @ North American Martyrs Chess Meet
Polacek, Stebbing, Timm & Urban all win their divisions!
The Wahoo Chess Club brought its largest contingent ever to a chess meet, as 29 students in grades 2-12 participated in the North American Martyrs Chess Meet in Lincoln on Saturday, January 30.
Wahoo captured four first place trophies, as Tyler Timm, Mollie Urban, Jesse Stebbing, and Noah Polacek all won their divisions!
Wahoo students winning second or third place trophies were the following: Caden Searcy, Barrett Nelson, Nathan Urban, Gabe Harris, Marshall Elder, Josh Johnson, and Gabby Raney.
“It was great to see so many students compete at a meet,” said Wahoo Chess Coach Larry Fangman. “It is also great that so many more girls are competing this year. I believe Mollie Urban was the first Wahoo girl to ever finish first at a meet!”
The Wahoo High School Chess Club will next compete on March 5 in the team state championships at Omaha Gross High School.
The Wahoo Middle School/Elementary Chess Club will next compete on March 19 at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Omaha.
