Elementary/middle school chess club takes runner-up at St. Matthew's meet
Students prepare for next event: Fremont Chess Festival on April 21
Twenty-two Wahoo students from the elementary and middle school participated at a chess meet at St. Matthew’s in Bellevue on March 10.
Wahoo finished in second place in the team competition, falling short of the championship by .25, which meant if one more student who lost had earned a draw or a win, Wahoo would have won the competition.
“We mainly play for fun and socialization, but it excited the students to get a team trophy,” said WPS Chess Sponsor Larry Fangman. “It’s cool to see how they are invested in the group as a whole. Six students also earned individual trophies by finishing first, second, or third in their divisions.”
The next chess event currently on the schedule is the Fremont Chess Festival on April 21.
