WHS sophomore sets new school record with USCF rating

Wahoo sophomore Noah Polacek, who entered the Nov. 19 UNO Rated Open with a U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) rating of 800, upset three opponents with ratings over 1000, on his way to a second place finish!

Polacek lost a close match in the championship. His rating increased from 800 to 1015 after the meet, which is now the school record!

While Polacek was the only player to capture a trophy, other chess club members raised their USCF ratings as well.

Jack Maass increased his rating from 617 to 662. Mathew Wolf increased his rating from 420 to 550, and Sam Brabec increased his rating from 290 to 433. Freshman Alex Tomjack won two matches in his USCF debut, and earned his first rating at 260.
