Polacek & Wolf lead strong Wahoo Chess Club showing in Lincoln
Grades 3-8 compete at North American Martyrs competition
The full Wahoo Chess Club team competed together for the first time at North American Martyrs in Lincoln on January 27.
The trophy winners in the elementary were fourth grader Will Mortensen (3rd place), and fifth grader Isabel Smith (3rd place).
Middle school placers were sixth graders Trevor Beavers (2nd place), and Seth Obert, Gabe Harris, and Jesse Stebbing, who all finished in 3rd place in their divisions. Eighth grader Caleb Malousek finished 2nd.
The high school chess club had two champions, as both Noah Polacek and Andrew Wolf captured first place in their divisions.
These chess club members also competed at North American Martyrs: Gabby Raney, Hailey Pfligler, Connor Herndon, Riley Herndon, Katelyn Urban, Nathan Urban, Mollie Urban, Alex Tomjack, Logan Scott, Mathew Wolf, Jack Mortensen, Jamie Engel, Marshall Strom, and Evan Reynolds.
The Wahoo High School team will next compete at the Nebraska State Team Championships, which will be held at Wahoo High School on March 3. The elementary and middle school teams will compete again on March 10 at Saint Matthew’s in Omaha.
