Wahoo Public Schools Receives National Recognition for Championing Music Education (6th Consecutive Year)
Wahoo, NE – 5/1/2026 – Wahoo Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation for their outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 27th year, the program continues to spotlight and celebrate school districts and individual schools across the United States for their exemplary dedication to music education and their ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning as part of a well-rounded education.
The award reaches K-12 communities nationwide, offering both recognition and momentum to strengthen and expand music education programs. In 2026, more than 1,000 school districts and schools—including public, private, charter and parochial institutions—have been recognized for outstanding achievement in providing access to high-quality music education.
“The passion and support for music education and the fine arts at Wahoo Public Schools is exceptional,” said WPS Director of Learning Dr. Josh Snyder. “Being recognized as one of four school districts across Nebraska to receive this honor is a testament to the dedication of our students, staff, and community. We are incredibly fortunate to be part of a school system that values and prioritizes the fine arts.”
Dr. Snyder also shared, “This recognition would not be possible without the commitment of our very talented instructors. Each day they bring passion and joy for the fine arts to their classroom and in turn to the students they work with each and every day! Thank you: Mr. Jason Smith, Mrs. Abby Rood, Mrs. Kelli Mattson, and Ms. Annie von Kampen for creating a highly engaging and supportive environment where our students can thrive! This is a direct reflection of our commitment to excellence in music education. Through the combined efforts of our students and their families, and the efforts of our Music Boosters, who continue to invest their time and energy into student success, we are able to create meaningful opportunities for students to grow and excel in music and the arts, and we are excited to build on that momentum in the year ahead.”
Recipients of the 2026 BCME Awards were selected through a comprehensive application and review process that evaluates key indicators, including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support. To uphold the program’s rigor and credibility, all applications were independently reviewed and verified by WolfBrown, a leading research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts.
