Warrior Football Coaching Staff to Host Sports Nutrition Presentation
Football Players and Parents Encouraged to Attend May 4 Event
The Warrior Football Coaching Staff is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Sports Nutrition Presentation on Sunday, May 4, for all Wahoo football players and parents. This presentation will take place at Wahoo High School’s Little Theatre at 7:00 p.m. Our guest speaker will be Karen McWilliams RD-LMNT, a registered dietician and licensed medical nutrition therapist who is currently working at Saunders Medical Center. She will present and share some vital information with our parents and athletes about proper nutrition during the off-season (summer) and during the football season, the use of supplements by high school athletes, and proper hydration during the football season.
One of the top questions the Wahoo football staff encounters each season from parents and athletes is “What should my son be eating to maintain or gain weight during the football season?” Another question that arises is “What type of supplements would you recommend for my son to take to help him during the football season?”
With the health industry introducing new supplements and “quick fix” solutions for weight gain and muscle development each year, the coaching staff at Wahoo would like to stress the fact that we DO NOT promote the use of any type of supplements (Ex: Steroids, HGH, Creatine, etc.) from our athletes. Oftentimes, high school athletes will use adult, professional athletes as guideposts in developing their attitudes towards their nutritional philosophies.
With this knowledge, our main purpose in bringing Karen McWilliams to Wahoo High School is to allow her to answer these and many other questions that our football athletes and parents may have about sports nutrition, supplements, and proper hydration and to counter many of the “myths” surrounding their impact on the high school athlete.
With all of the supplements that are out there, we want our athletes to have the proper information when it comes to what they should be putting in their bodies. As a coaching staff, we do not promote the use of any types of supplements. That is one of the reasons we want to bring in a person like Karen in to share her expertise with us.
The Warrior Football coaching staff feels extremely fortunate to be able to have Karen McWilliams come to Wahoo High School to share her expertise on this very important topic.
If you have any questions about the presentation, please feel free to contact Coach Fox via email at cfox@esu2.org or by phone at 443-4332 at school or 443-3259 at home.
We look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday, May 4, at 7:00 p.m.
