'Night in the Tropics' Helps Lift Spirits from Homecoming Game Loss
This last month was marked by two of the most memorable events in any high school"s calendar: the homecoming game and dance.
The only downside of the homecoming celebrations this year happened to be the Wahoo Warriors suffering their first defeat of the season at the homecoming game. The Arlington Eagles defeated the Warriors with the final score ending of 28 to 21.
'It was a very intense game to cheer for,' stated Dani K., a WHS cheerleader.
The half-time show was packed full with thrill-inducing events, beginning with the Wahoo Marching Warriors. They knocked the socks off the crowd with this year"s marching show entitled, 'Pictures at an Exhibition' by Mussorgsky. When broken down, the show incorporated three songs: 'Promanade/Babi Yaga,' 'Despute de Enfants/Great Gate of Kiev' and also included the percussion feature, 'Old Castle/Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks'
'I felt the band did very well, considering it was their first performance of the year,' was the comment of senior Sarah T., a piccolo player in the band.
The WHS Dance Squad had their halftime performance, 'Cowgirl Remix.'
There was also the half-time fireworks exhibition provided by Divis Fireworks.
Student Council President Ashley B. commented, 'We had a really good turnout this year.'
Nominees for homecoming king were Nick M., Tom D., Dan D., Bret E., Andy B., and Cassidy N.. The candidates for homecoming queen were Lyndey B., Dani L., Melissa P., Kaitlyn P., Gina H., and Shandah M.. In the end, Kaitlyn P. was crowned homecoming queen and Tom D. was selected as the homecoming king of 2005 during the evening"s coronation ceremony.
Students danced the night away to the sounds of In Stereo with Spencer Williamson working the music.
The WHS dance squad, cheerleaders, and student council provided the decorations. The Pfeiffer and Sutton families also donated decorations to be used at the dance.
Students were greeted at the door this year by breathalyzer tests, provided by the organization, Safe Community.
