Wahoo Elementary prepares to "Rise & Shine!" for 2018-2019
Back to School Night: Tuesday, August 14
Dear Parents & Guardians,
I am excited to announce the beginning of the school year for Wahoo Elementary, beginning with Back to School Night on August 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Please make an effort to bring your children to this fun event to help them transition into the school year with confidence and enthusiasm. When you arrive, you will undoubtedly notice our school theme, “Rise & Shine!” Elementary staff will use this theme throughout the year to 1) maintain a student-centered focus, 2) reinforce the importance of RISING to challenges, and 3) teach children that gaining attention for positive actions is what it really means to SHINE. You are invited to join Wahoo teachers and staff as we use this year-long theme to bolster students’ confidence and school pride through positive action and recognition.
I look forward to meeting each of you as I join the community as your new principal. Most importantly, I look forward to leading a team of dedicated educators to ensure high quality opportunities are available for each child every single day. Kids benefit from strong home to school connections, and I encourage you to reach out if you are interested in volunteering or giving input about how our school meets the needs of students. You are welcome to contact me directly. Please see the general announcements and reminders below.
Rise & Shine!
General School Items
Supervision & School Hours
School hours will remain the same as past years. Breakfast and morning supervision (clubs) will begin at 7:45 a.m. The first bell signaling time for class will ring at 8:05, and the tardy bell will ring at 8:15. Students must be seated and ready for class at this time. School dismisses daily at 3:15 p.m. Please do not leave children unattended on school grounds before 7:45 or after 3:15. Please be patient during arrival and dismissal; many of our young students will be learning their routines.
If you have questions regarding transportation to and from school for your child, please contact Kris Pokorny at (402) 443-3051.
On the first student day, children are to go directly to their classroom where teachers will be ready to greet them. There will be no morning clubs on this day, except for breakfast. Regular morning supervision and clubs will begin on the second day of school.
Security & Signing In
All visitors, including parents, are expected to sign in and wear a name tag at the office when visiting the school.
Early Dismissal & School Closing
Please look over the school calendar and make note of scheduled early dismissals. If the school schedule is altered due to weather, it will be announced via the phone alert system, social media, and news stations. Please notify the school if your contact information has changed. Doing so allows us to communicate with you more effectively.
Appointments & Instructional Time
Occasionally, medical appointments and other high-priority meetings must be scheduled during the school day. Please understand when scheduling these and other obligations that instructional time is a high priority and missing school should be a last resort. If your child does need to leave for such an appointment, please notify office staff and teacher in writing with advance notice.
Illness & Absences
If your child is ill or misses school for any other reason, please call the office to let us know. Office staff will call parents of absentees if we do not hear from you.
Immunizations & Forms
All students must have current immunizations or meet the waiver requirement. A valid birth certificate must also be on file. Contact Nurse Josh Trutna if you have questions regarding immunizations or medical forms.
Photos of students and staff will take place on August 28. A packet will come home with your student as the date approaches.
