Welcome to Wahoo Elementary
Welcome back for the 2019-2020 school year. Our maintenance team has put enormous effort into cleaning, polishing, and updating our school, and it’s time once more to welcome your children back into the building! We are excited to have these quiet halls filled with smiles, high fives and energetic chatter again; we’ve missed your kids! Please join us at Back to School Night on August 13 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Our school’s theme this year is “ALL for ONE!” We will use this theme throughout the year to promote unity, relationships, and a sense of belonging. The level of teamwork that goes on among the professionals in our school is unmatched, but also understand that parent input is appreciated and necessary to truly meet the needs of each child in our school. You are part of our team, and we are all here for one reason: to help your child do his/her very best!
Please see the general announcements and reminders below, especially the traffic guidelines. As always, you are encouraged to contact me if I can help in any way.
ALL for ONE!

General School Items
Supervision & School Hours - Breakfast and morning supervision (clubs) begins at 7:45 a.m. The first bell rings 8:05, and the tardy bell will ring at 8:15. Students must be seated and ready for class at this time. School dismisses daily at 3:15 p.m. Do not leave children unattended on school grounds before 7:45 or after 3:15. Please be patient during arrival and dismissal; many of our young students will be learning their routines.
Transportation - If you have questions regarding transportation to and from school for your child, please contact Kris Pokorny at (402)443-3051.
First Day - On the first student day, children are to go directly to their classroom where teachers will be ready to greet them. There will be no morning clubs on this day, except for breakfast. Regular morning supervision and clubs will begin on the second day of school.
Security & Signing In - All visitors, including parents, are expected to sign in at the office and wear a nametag while visiting the school. We encourage parents and community members to visit. Extended visits outside of lunch and social times should be scheduled with the principal with advance notice.
Early Dismissal & School Closing - Please look over the calendar and make note of scheduled early dismissals. Calendars and schedules are available on the school website. If the school schedule is altered due to weather, it will be announced via the phone alert system, social media, and news stations. Please notify the school if your contact information has changed. Doing so allows us to communicate with you more effectively.
Appointments & Instructional Time - Occasionally, medical appointments and other high-priority meetings must be scheduled during the school day. Please understand when scheduling these and other obligations that instructional time is a high priority and missing school should be a last resort. If your child does need to leave for such an appointment, please notify office staff and teacher in writing with advance notice.
Illness & Absences - If your child is ill or misses school for any other reason, please call the office to let us know. Office staff will call parents of absentees if we do not hear from you.
Immunizations & Forms - All students must have current immunizations or meet the waiver requirement. A valid birth certificate must also be on file. Contact Nurse Josh Trutna if you have questions regarding immunizations or medical forms.
School Pictures - Photos of students and staff will take place on Tuesday, August 27. A packet will come home with your student as the date approaches.
