This year's senior class celebrated its final day of school on Wednesday, May 6. Graduation will be celebrated on Sunday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
51.4 percent of this year's graduate plan to attend a four-year college or university, 27.7 percent plan to attend a two-year college, 2.8 percent will attend a tech or trade school, 8.3 percent will enter into military service, 6.9 percent will enter into the work force, and 2.8 percent are undecided.
Fifty-eight (58.3%) of the seniors reported they were offered a scholarship and/or grants for a total amount of over $1.2 million ($1,291,058) in award monies this year, but will accept the use of about $860,000 ($864,379) Of these totals, over $36,000 ($36,687) came from local scholarships, and $30,000 ($31,975) came from grants. (It is common for students to continue to receive scholarship awards through July.)

*Alexander James Abbott, son of Michelle & Shawn Abbott, will attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he received a James Canfield Freshman Scholarship and Dean’s Merit Scholarship. Alex was also awarded a Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship. He will pursue a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Brianna Christine Abramo, daughter of Dawn Kramer and Jennifer & John Abramo, applied to Metropolitan Community College and Southeast Community College in Lincoln. Brianna plans to complete General Education requirements at SCC, then transfer to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln to major in Accounting and Business Management. Brianna received a Dr. William Karl Stefan Memorial Scholarship.
*Joelle Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Julie Baker-Anderson and Joel Anderson, was admitted to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, College of Arts and Sciences. Joelle received the Kyle “Flik” Elliott & Chris Roberts Memorial Scholarship, a Patricia Starr Music Scholarship and a Dr. William Karl Stefan Memorial Scholarship.
*Jenna Dee Becker, daughter of Kathy & Dan Becker, will attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln where she enrolled in the Academic Transfer Program with the intention of transferring to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Jenna plans to major in Psychology.
Lincoln Tyler Belitz, son of Jenny & Daniel Belitz, will attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he will pursue a degree in Business Management.
Derek Daniel Bell, son of Jodi & Rob Foxworthy, plans to attend Wayne State College where he will major in Computer Science and minor in Business.
Ashley Renee Benson, daughter of Christin Benson, enrolled at Southeast Community College in Lincoln where she will pursue a degree in Business Administration. Ashley was offered a Learn to Dream Scholarship from the Larry Dean Cejka Scholarship Foundation sponsored by the Wahoo Scholarship Partners and Southeast Community College, and a Dr. William Karl Stefan Memorial Scholarship.
Seth Douglas Bohac, son of Kristin & Doug Bohac, applied to Briar Cliff College, Doane College, Peru State College and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Seth plans to attend UNL where he will pursue a degree in Business with the goal of owning his own business one day.
*Bailey Jane Brigham, daughter of Kim & Rob Brigham, plans to attend Doane College to pursue a triple major in Pre-Law, Psychology and Spanish, and play volleyball. She was awarded a Doane College Volleyball Program Scholarship and a Presidential Scholarship. Bailey received the Ron & Tim Larsen Memorial Scholarship.
Kylee Kristine Brigham, daughter of Melissa & Greg Brigham, plans to keep working at South Haven, and pursue studies in Cosmetology at the College of Hair Design, while taking business courses at Southeast Community College then transfer to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to major in Business.
*Jordan Ann Bustad, daughter of Lisa & Dan Bustad, applied to Iowa State University and Northwest Missouri State University. She enrolled at Northwest Missouri State where she was invited into the Honors Program and awarded a Bearcat Advantage Scholarship, a Distinguished Scholar Award, and a Presidential Scholar of Merit Candidate Award. Jordan plans to major in Elementary Education. She received the Wahoo Education Association Scholarship.
Adam Lawrence-Carl Campbell, son of Julie & Mike Campbell, plans to pursue a career in the U.S. Air Force.
Chyanne Marie Caniglia, daughter of Kathleen & Joseph Caniglia, plans to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant while attending the University of Nebraska a Omaha, where she will pursue a degree in Nursing.
Zachariah Everett Clark, son of Brenda & Jay Clark, plans to become a skydiver instructor and live life to the fullest on weekends, and do computer programming during the week. While bringing these plans to fruition, he will major in Computer Science at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Hailey Rae Cunningham, daughter of Erin Harmon and Damian Cunningham, applied to Northeast Community College, the University of Nebraska Medicine College, and Wayne State College. She is undecided as to which college she will attend, but plans to work this summer, then attend college to pursue a degree in Nursing. Hailey received a 2nd Place Regional Scholarship as a member of the Academic Decathlon Team.
Amanda Morgan Day, daughter of Jennifer Bateman and Deric Day, plans to work for a year, then enlist in the United States Army, with the goal to play in the U.S. Army Band.
Ashley Marie Else, daughter of Danille Woodbury and Scott Else, plans to travel this summer, then attend either Metro Community College or Southeast Community College in Lincoln where she will complete General Education requirements before transferring to a four-year college. Ashley plans to major in Public Administration and Sociology.
Shauna Elizabeth Fiala, daughter of Carol & Dean Fiala, applied to Morningside College, Southeast Community College in Lincoln, and Wayne State College. She plans to attend SCC to complete General Education studies while deciding a degree to pursue. Shauna received the Mark Massie Memorial Scholarship, the Mark A. Swanson Memorial Scholarship and a Student Council Scholarship.
Douglas Rodney Ford, son of Dawn Twyford, and Jon Ford, was offered a Learn to Dream Scholarship sponsored by Southeast Community College and Wahoo Public Schools. Doug plans to enlist in the U.S. Navy.
Taylor Lynn Gatewood, daughter of Tracy & Tim Gatewood, plans to attend the College of Hair Design where she received a Hair Art Scholarship. Taylor will pursue a dual license in Barber Arts and Cosmetology.
*Kylie Renee Givens, daughter of Tammy Givens and Rick Robinson, applied to Northeast Community College-UNMC Program and Wayne State College. She plans to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Paramedic while pursuing a degree in Pre-Medicine or Chemistry at Wayne State. Her goal is to become a surgeon.
Curtis Steven Hartshorn, son of Amy & Darrin Hartshorn, plans to attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln, where he will pursue a degree in Welding Technology.
*Lindsey Marie Hartshorn, daughter of Amy & Darrin Hartshorn, enrolled in the Nebraska Methodist College where she was awarded an Achievement Scholarship and the Horizon Scholarship. Lindsey plans to pursue a degree for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Trevor Isaac Hedges, son of Jodi & Doug Hedges, plans to move to Colorado where he will enroll at the University of Colorado in Denver to pursue a double major in Political Science and Philosophy.
William Charles Holdsworth, son of Kim & Dan Holdsworth, applied to Southeast Community College and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He plans to continue
working at Pizza Hut and Ka-Boomers, while attending Southeast Community College in Lincoln. He plans to pursue studies in Mechanical Engineering.
Rachel Marie Hrdlicka, daughter of Irene & Henry J. Hrdlicka, applied to Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She plans to attend
Nebraska Wesleyan where she received an Archway Scholarship, a NWU Achievement Scholarship and a NWU Legacy Scholarship. Rachel will major in Psychology and Spanish.
Annissa Dawn Hutson, daughter of Kristin and the late Jason Hutson, enrolled at Southeast Community College in Lincoln. She plans to become a skilled Graphic Designer with the hope of owning her own business in the future. Annissa was offered a Learn to Dream Scholarship sponsored by Southeast Community College and Wahoo Public Schools.
Gavin William Iversen, son of Lora & Jayson Iversen, applied to Doane College, Morningside College, and Wayne State College. Gavin plans to play football at Doane, but is undecided as to his major. He received a Doane Van Hoy Academic Scholarship and Athletic Scholarship for Football.
Justin James Jarman, son of Michelle & Scott Jarman, applied to Doane College, Midland University, and Morningside College where he received an Academic Scholarship and an Athletic Scholarship for Football. Justin plans to play football at Morningside while pursuing a major in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Science.
*Lauren Nicole Kastanek, daughter of Stephanie & Todd Kastanek, applied to Doane College where she was offered a Directions Program Leadership Award and a Presidential Scholarship, Hastings College where she was offered a Dean’s Scholarship and Crimson Scholarship, Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she was offered a Presidential Scholarship, and a NWU Achievement Scholarship, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where she was offered a Chancellor’s Scholarship, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she was offered a James Canfield Scholarship for Freshman. Lauren plans to pursue a Pre-Health program of study at UNL.
Alexandria Marie Knowlton, daughter of Carrie & Shawn Knowlton, was accepted to Metropolitan Community College, Southeast Community College and Northeast Community College where she was awarded a Northeast Community College McIntosh Family Endowed Scholarship and a TeamMates Scholarship. Allie plans to attend Northeast Community College then transfer into the University of Nebraska Medical Center satellite program for Nursing to complete a Bachelor of Science Nursing with a minor in Forensics to be able to work as a Forensic Nurse. Allie intends to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant while in college and hopes to qualify to work with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) internationally known as Doctors Without Borders this summer and also after graduating from college. Allie received a Dr. William Karl Stefan Memorial Scholarship.
Dalton Robert Lamprecht, son of Clint Lamprecht, applied to Grace University where he hopes to play basketball, while majoring in Psychology.
Thomas Orley McAtee, son of Amy & Ray McAtee, will attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln to complete General Education Studies, then transfer to the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he will major in Marketing.
*Lukas Ryan McIlhaney, son of Mary & Nathan McIlhaney, was accepted to Indiana University, the University of North Texas and Vanderbilt University. He plans to major in Flute Performance at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. Lukas received the Deborah L. Gilmore Memorial Scholarship through the Omaha Area Youth Orchestra Scholarship Program, the Robert L. Tookey Award from the Fremont Area Foundation, the Saunders County Independent Bankers Association Scholarship, the Steven Smith Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship, and a Patricia Starr Music Scholarship.
*Rachael Marie Meyer, daughter of Nancy & Alan Meyer, applied to Tufts University and the University of Minnesota –Twin Cities Campus. She plans to attend Tufts and double major in International Relations and English. Rachael received the new Ruth H. Aufenkamp Memorial Scholarship, the “Willard Hunzeker” – Wahoo Lions Club Scholarship, the Wahoo Area Kiwanis Club Scholarship, a Wahoo Student Council Scholarship, and a 2nd Place Regional Scholarship as a member of the Academic Decathlon Team.
Collin Robert Nadrchal, son of Heidi & Joe Nadrchal, will continue working at Collins Construction for a year, then attend Southeast Community College in Milford to pursue studies in Welding Technology.
Reid Frederick Nelson, son of Dione & Robert Nelson, plans to play baseball at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, while deciding a major to pursue. Reid was awarded a Saunders County 4-H Scholarship.
Christine Marie Newell, daughter of Lauri Newell, plans to work this summer, then attend Metropolitan Community College in Elkhorn to complete General Studies, and transfer to a 4-year college to pursue a degree in Special Education.
Shane Michael Nixon, son of Deb & Mike Nixon, applied to Doane College, Morningside College, Northeast Community College and Peru State College. Shane will attend Northeast Community College where he will audition for a scholarship in June. Next summer, he plans to apply to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles and if accepted, will major in Music Theatre. If not, he will transfer to a four-year college to major in Elementary Education and minor in Music Theatre with his goal to work as a Kindergarten teacher and later become a theatre director.
John Patrick Noonan IV, son of Kay & John P. Noonan, III, plans to work at Wahoo Concrete, then attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
*Rochelle Lynn Olson, daughter of Angela & Steven Olson, applied to Midland University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She plans to attend Midland where she will major in Biology. Rochelle received a Midland Anderson Leadership Dancer Scholarship and hopes to walk on at Midland for the Warrior Wildfire Dance Team. She also received the Daniel F. Pestal Memorial Scholarship and a Dr. William Karl Stefan Memorial Scholarship.
Madison Lynn Partridge, daughter of Susan & Don Partridge, was admitted to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she received an Athletic Scholarship for Track & Field. She plans to major in Special Education and Sign Language Interpretation. Maddy received the 2015 Larson-Aufenkamp Scholarship awarded by the Wahoo First United Methodist Church and a Wahoo Education Association Scholarship.
*Cheyenne Rose Pearce, daughter of Tyler Pearce, applied to Mount Mercy University, where she was offered a Dean’s Scholarship, Basketball Scholarship, Catholic Education Grant, and an Out-of-State Grant. Cheyenne was inducted into Southeast Community College at Beatrice’s Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, for earning a minimum of 20 quarter-credits and maintaining a collegiate G.P.A. of 3.50. She will earn a total of 42.5 quarter-credits by Graduation and plans to take one college course in June. Cheyenne was offered a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship through Mount Mercy’s transfer program. She plans to play basketball at Mount Mercy University, while
pursuing a double major in Criminal Justice and Business and minor in Pre-Law.
*Janae Jaclyn Pearson, daughter of Joni & Paul Pearson, applied to Nebraska Methodist College, where she was offered an Achievement Scholarship and a Horizon Scholarship, Nebraska Wesleyan University where she was one of twenty students invited into the Archway Honors Nursing Program, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney where she was offered a Dean’s Scholarship. Janae plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University where she received a Black & Gold Scholarship and an Achievement Scholarship. She plans to do a double major in Nursing and Pre-Medicine. Janae was also awarded a “$1000 scholarship given by Ken Hanke in memory
of Grace Hanke.”
Emily Rose Pestal, daughter of Paula & Kenneth Pestal, applied to Midland University and the University of Nebraskaat Omaha. She enrolled at Midland where she was awarded a Dance Scholarship. Emily plans to major in Biology and pursue a career in Radiology. She also received a 4-H Council Scholarship and a Dr. William Karl Stefan Memorial Scholarship.
Cole James Peterson, son of Kristine & James Peterson, was admitted to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, College of Engineering. Cole is undecided as to which college he will attend, but plans to major in Engineering. He received the 2015 JEO Consulting Group, Inc. Scholarship.
Kody Lane Pope, son of Susan & Kevin Pope, was accepted to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in Los Angeles and in New York City, where he plans to pursue a Bachelors of Fine Arts - Performing Arts. Kody’s program of study focuses on foundational work in all performance areas: acting, musical theatre, singing, dance, improv and stage combat with the added bonus of attending both the L.A. and New York City campuses. Kody also hopes to pursue studies in cinematography, directing, and studio recording. He received an AMDA V.I.P. Scholarship.
Madison Mateel Pry, daughter of Rebecca Matlock and Jason Pry, will attend the Nebraska Methodist College in Omaha. She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, then continue to graduate school to complete a degree in Neonatology. She was offered a Northwest Missouri State University Freshman Merit Award and Green & White Advantage Scholarship.
Dalton Larry Rademaker, son of Lois Rademaker and Randy Rademaker, received a 2nd Place Regional Scholarship as a member of the Academic Decathlon Team. He plans to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, attend Basic Training, then go to Air Traffic Control Tech School to become an Air Traffic Controller.
Dillon Randal Rademaker, son of Lois Rademaker and Randy Rademaker, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and will report to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California on May 18th.
Miranda Mae Rademaker, daughter of Lois Rademaker and Randy Rademaker, enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where she will major in Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health studies. Miranda received a Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship, College Opportunity Scholarship, CollegeBound Nebraska Grant, Nebraska Opportunity Grant and Pell Grant.
Chase Martin Rathke, son of Colette & Kevin Rathke, was admitted to Southeast Community College in Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he was offered a Dean’s Scholarship, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Wayne State College. Chase enrolled in the College of Business at UNO. He received the Fontanelle Hybrids 2015 Essay Scholarship, a Nebraska Airboaters Association Scholarship, and a Saunders County 4-H Scholarship.
Gage William Redlinger, son of Cindy & Brett Redlinger, completed Project Search at Valmont Industries. At the completion of the program, Gage was offered a full-time
position, which he accepted.
Katelyn Grayce Rose Reeves, daughter of Lori & Gregg Reeves, plans to attend Doane College to play volleyball and major in Nursing and Biology. Katie received a Doane Community Award and Volleyball Scholarship.
*Tyler Charles Ruzicka, son of Vicki & John Ruzicka, was admitted to the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he will major in Linguistics. Tyler received a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Scholarship, and will defer enrollment at UWM for a year, so he can study in Beijing, China. Tyler received a 2nd Place Regional Scholarship as a member of the Academic Decathlon Team and the Wahoo Senior Center Association Scholarship.
Jacob William Scheef, son of Jodi & Kevin Scheef, was admitted to Doane College, where he received a Van Hoy Scholarship, Men’s Basketball Scholarship, Doane Legacy Award, and Doane College Visit Grant. Jake plans to play basketball for Doane, but is undecided as to a major he will pursue. He received a Primrose Alumni Association Scholarship.
*Bailee Ryann Schubauer, daughter of Charlene & Brian Schubauer, enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she will pursue studies in a science related area. Bailee received a UNL Regents Scholarship and a National Honor Society/Red Cross Scholarship.
Gabrielle Elise Shannon, daughter of Nancy Shannon and Steve Shannon, applied to Doane College, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Nebraska Wesleyan University. Gabby plans to attend Doane where she was awarded a TeamMates Scholarship and Volleyball Scholarship. She will pursue a degree in Psychology and play volleyball.
Skylar Rae Simon, daughter of Shelly & Kerstan Simon, will attend the College of Hair Design where she was awarded a Hair Art Scholarship. Skylar plans to pursue a degree in Cosmetology.
Tristan Caleb Sladek, son of Angie & Ron Sladek, plans to work at Wahoo Concrete and attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln to pursue studies in Information
Technology.
Ivan Rene Sotelo, son of Leticia & Ramon Sotelo, plans to attend Midland University where he received an Athletic Scholarship for Wrestling. Ivan will pursue a degree in
Accounting and hopes to work on campus while being involved in wrestling and intramurals.
Drake Alan Steinmetz, son of Mary Steinmetz, plans to attend Metro Community College to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Welding Technology.
Hannah Grace Storm, daughter of Judi & Todd Storm, is attending Columbia College in Chicago where she will major in Journalism. After graduating from college, Hannah plans to join the Peace Corps.
Anthony Alan Thorson, son of Shelli & Rod Thorson, will attend Southeast Community College in Beatrice where he will major in Agriculture Business and Management
Technology with a focus in Golf Turfgrass Management.
Steven Alan Tiedeman, son of Charlotte & John Fittro and Mark Tiedeman, enrolled at Southeast Community College in Lincoln where he will complete General Education Studies prior to transferring to a four-year college to complete a degree in Human Services.
*Kelsey Nicole Tomjack, daughter of Laurie & Clayton Tomjack, was admitted to Creighton University, Nebraska Wesleyan University where she was offered a Black & Gold Scholarship and a NWU Achievement Scholarship, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where she received a Dean’s Scholarship, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Kelsey plans to attend UNK to major in Pre-Dental Hygiene then transfer to a medical school. Kelsey was awarded the Michael Shada Memorial Scholarship.

Legacy Grant and a Presidential Scholarship, Nebraska Wesleyan University where she was offered a President Scholarship, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where she was offered a Chancellors’ Scholarship, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she was offered a James Canfield Scholarship for Freshmen. Kristen plans to major in Political Science and Sociology at UNK. She was awarded a Hearst Foundation Scholarship as part of the United States Senate Youth Program, and a Student Council Scholarship.
Kyle Phonsavanh White, son of Lote & Don White, enrolled at Metro Community College in Omaha where he will complete General Education studies prior to transferring to Clarkson College to complete a degree for Physical Therapy Assistant.
Zachary Lee Wobker, son of Charlotte Anderson-Wobker and Kevin Wobker, applied to Iowa Western Community College and Southeast Community College in Lincoln. This fall he plans to attend SCC and pursue a degree in welding. He hopes to work at Kawasaki or work full-time at Bristol Windows with his dad.
