The Wahoo High School SkillsUSA chapter competed at the State Leadership and Skills Competition in Hastings April 14-16.

The Technical Team Problem Solving competition involves a team of five students given a set of materials and a problem to solve. This year, they were given a spoon, a fork, some straws, a clothes pin, some wire, two ice cream sticks and a dixie cup.

Using hot glue, tape and a stapler, the task was to create a catapult that could be measured for accuracy, distance, and overall efficiency. The team also must create drawings of their machine and explain how they came up with the design. Wahoo came home with a State Championship, beating out 27 teams from all classes!

Other medalists were:

Michael Jonas: He got a perfect score and won the Jr. Division of the Metric 500 CO2 car race.
