Wahoo Public Schools Strategic Plan and External Review (2025-2026)

April 13, 2026

Lists the district Strategic Priorities in image format.Launch the media gallery 1 player

WPS School Community Members,

During the 25-26 school year, two important processes were completed from a school district and building level standpoint. These processes include the development of a District-Level Strategic Plan and hosting an External Review Team.

Strategic Planning Process and Goals

During the 24-25 school year, the WPS Board of Education and District Leadership/Continuous Improvement Team worked with the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) to begin the process of developing a strategic plan with specific action items. NASB facilitated the process.

The purpose of the strategic planning process is to:

  1. Identify long-term strategic goals and break them into attainable actions for a period of time.
  2. Identify what actions need to be taken, who will be responsible, when the work will occur, how resources are needed, and how it will be communicated.

The process included:

  1. Community Engagement Meetings (1/13/25) to gain feedback from community members (points of pride, accomplishments, current and future challenges, key areas of focus going forward).
  2. A school community/stakeholder survey was sent out to collect feedback from a greater school community audience. (Winter 2025)

The finalized WPS Strategic Plan can be found HERE. As the Strategic Plan is updated, progress toward the identified goals will be shared with the Board of Education and School Community. The district admin team meets weekly and discusses a strategy from the strategic plan. The district leadership team will work through this process during the summer of 2026 to better align our current operations with NASB's recommendations, and provide a clear path forward for the district.

External Visit Information and Findings - Video of the Exit Presentation (32 minutes)

As part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, our district hosted an External Visitation Team on November 13th & 14th, 2025. Every five years the NDE Rule 10 Accreditation Process requires a team of educators from school districts across Nebraska to spend time in our buildings observing classrooms, visiting with staff, students, and parents, while reviewing our current Action Plan. The purpose of the visiting team is to provide commendations for the positives happening in our schools and recommendations to help guide our next steps for growth. At the end of their visit they provide us with an Exit Presentation and a more detailed Written Exit Report. These results are used to create a new Action Plan aligned with our newly adopted Strategic Plan.

District Commendations Shared

  • The WPS Culture is alive and well! Strong WARRIOR PRIDE
  • A Culture of EXCELLENCE with Support and Accountability was felt and reaffirmed from students, staff, parents, and data.
  • Students and staff demonstrate a strong growth mindset, showing a consistent willingness to learn, improve, and engage in new opportunities and ideas.
  • Wahoo Public Schools have a lot of great systems in place that have led to high academic success. These systems include, Curriculum Alignment, Instructional Model, Evaluation System, ICU, Data Review, and the work around Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for English Language Arts.

District Recommendations Shared

  • Use your strategic plan as a foundation for the next five years. Structure your strategic plan into digestible bites that are communicated to all stakeholders. That is aligned to your current and future systems Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), MTSS, Instructional Model, Professional Development etc.
  • Develop new Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) Goals that are aligned to your district strategic plan that include measurable outcomes.
  • Develop a systematic plan to address future growth with your facilities, needed staff, budget while maintaining your strong culture of excellence.
  • Evaluate the balance among hands-on learning, direct instruction, and the use of technology to ensure instructional practices maximize student learning.
  • Take time to celebrate accomplishments, big and small, don’t take what you have at Wahoo for granted.

We’re proud of the work our staff and students do each day! Thank you school family for your ongoing support of our schools and for helping make Wahoo Public Schools a welcoming school community!

#ExcellenceEverywhere
