2014 WHS alum tapped to lead 2016-2017 Wayne State College Band
Katie Welsh selected as Drum Major
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThis year’s marching band at Wayne State College is 104 members strong. Conducting the band this year are two drum majors, one of whom is former Wahoo High School Band member Katie Welsh!
Welsh has been with the Wayne State Band for three years now. She auditioned to be drum major by conducting for the faculty. When asked what draws her to marching band, she says she loves the feel of being in a family in the band.
Welsh is a music education major at Wayne State. After she graduates in the spring of 2018, she would like to teach band in a school the size of Wahoo.
The Wayne State College Band will perform at home football games, and will also be performing at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association this year.
