WHS Comparative Anatomy Students to Receive CPR/First Aid Training
Community Organizations Combine Efforts to Provide Nine Day Life-Saving Program

The students at Wahoo High School now will have an additional opportunity to have a positive effect on individuals in the Wahoo Public Schools and the Wahoo community, in general. Forty-two students in the Comparative Anatomy classes will receive training in CPR/First Aid, February 5-15, as a part of a grant received from the Community Health grants through the Southeast Nebraska AHEC. The grant was co-authored by Mary Specht, R.N., B.S.N. at Wahoo Public Schools, and Steve Shannon, the Comparative Anatomy instructor at Wahoo High School.
With a student base that extends past Wahoo, to Colon, Malmo, Ithaca, Lincoln, Weston, and Valparaiso, the CPR/First Aid training that the students of Wahoo High School will receive has the potential to reach most of Saunders County and beyond in the effort to help those who are in need of emergency assistance.
"I wanted to give my students the opportunity to learn the life-saving skills needed to make a positive impact if an emergency situation should arise," Shannon commented.
Wahoo Public Schools is teaming up with the Southeast Nebraska Area Health Education Center, UNMC's Rural Health Education Network, the Saunders Country Sheriff's Department, Wahoo Fire and Rescue, and the Freidel Medical Associates PC to provide this valuable training to the students of Wahoo High School. Cindy Hightshoe, an employee of the Saunders County Sheriff's Department, will be the primary trainer for the nine day program.
