WHS Honors American Government Student Attend Annual County Government Day

Honors American Government students from Wahoo High School recently had a chance to learn how Saunders County Government operates.

County Government Day is held every year in November, giving students a chance to meet some of our county government officials and even speak to them.

On Wednesday, November 19, students from Prague, North Bend, Wahoo Public, Ashland and Cedar Bluffs came to the Saunders County Courthouse in Wahoo to participate in the 42nd year of this special day.

They first congregated in the third floor courtroom. There they learned about the history of County Government Day. They also learned about other opportunities to get involved with government.

From there they proceeded to the Veterans Club where they ate and met with the government officials.

After lunch, the students listened to a presentation from the Army. Following the speech, the students went with an assigned county official to learn more specifically about his/her role in our County Government.

“It was a good experience,” said WHS junior Kirstin Nervig. “We got to see how our government works on a local level.”

Overall, 15 students from the high school participated in the event.
