Saunders County Head Start Annual Report
(2008-09)
The Saunders County Head Start Program strives to educate young children, empower families and form partnerships to make a positive impact on the overall community. This is our 18th year of service to children and families living in Saunders County. Wahoo Public Schools is the delegate responsible for the operation of the Saunders County Program. Two Head Start classrooms are located in the Wahoo Elementary Building and one Head Start classroom is in the Ashland-Greenwood Elementary Building.
Funding: Saunders County Head Start is Federally funded. State funds are used to provide Special Education services for children with verified disabilities in an inclusive setting. The USDA School lunch program provides meal reimbursement.
Enrollment: The Program is funded to serve 44 children. Head Start provided services to a total of 48 children. This figure included children that were enrolled and left the program. The Program maintained full enrollment throughout the school year.
Health Services: This year 95% of enrolled children are complete or up to date on immunizations. 93% of the children received a physical and dental exam. 96% of the children participated in the fluoride program.
Parent Involvement: The Saunders County Head Start encourages parent participation in virtually every area of Head Start. Parent involvement activities include Family Fun Nights, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Home Visits, Policy Committee and Policy Council, Health Services Advisory Committee and classroom volunteering.
Monitoring: A self assessment of the strengths and concerns of the Program is completed annually. A Federal Monitoring team completes a review of the Program every three years. The last review was in April of 2007. There were no areas of non compliance at this review.
