WHS Freshman Girls Post Dominant Victory over Arlington
The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Arlington Eagles 61-45 in their last freshman game.
The Eagles started with an aggressive tip, but the Warriors responded quickly with a quick bucket from Nicole Pearson. The ladies continued to play strong against a talented Arlington team. After the first quarter the Warriors had a two-point lead.
The second quarter was still tight and both teams weren’t about to give up. A big play for the Warriors was when Jordan Coffey dove onto the ground for a loose ball and tossed the ball backwards to Sydney Hancock; meanwhile, Katelyn O’Brien took off backcourt and received a baseball pass from Hancock to put it in for two.
The Warriors found themselves in foul trouble, but Ashton Claussen came off the bench and stepped up her game to help the Warriors out in time of need. The girls went into the locker with a score of 28-32, Hancock with 15 points and O’Brien following closely behind her with 11.
With 16 minutes to play, the Warriors were determined to give it their all coming out with a very intense press, which was hard for the Eagles to stop. Fast ball movement opened the door for more opportunities for the Warriors to score. This was the girls’ strongest third quarter of the season, outscoring the Lady Eagles by 11.
The fourth quarter had tough defense on both sides. Rachel Urban and Melissa Foster came into the game with a lot of energy and heart. The girls played very well together and never let up. O’Brien led the Warriors with 30 points.
