1-17-09
Score: 108-18

After a long bus ride home, the Warriors were ready for more action.

Wahoo faced a DC West team that was short on personnel due to injury.

“We dominated the game from start to finish. The bench saw a lot of action through the entire game,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.

The Warriors set two new school records: most points scored and margin of victory outscoring the Falcons 108-18. The old school record was set in the 2004-05 season against Bennington 95-17.

Ten warriors scored during the game. Mattie Murren led the Warriors with 23 while Erin Walker marked 18. Mallory Shanahan took charge of the boards with 9 rebounds and Jordan Hinrichs led the team with 7 in assists and steals.

Wahoo Loses Battle with GINW
Record Falls to 8-3
1-16-09
Score: 44-47

The battle was on from the beginning.

“We never got on track offensively or defensively,” Head Coach Linda Walker said.

“It felt like we were in slow motion most of the game. We shot the poorest we have all year (24% and NW shot 50%). Their size seemed to put a kink in our attack; however, our determination was always present even when we were behind by 11.”

The last four minutes of the ballgame is when the heat came on. Jordan Hinrichs found Taylor Kavan at the baseline for the bonus foul shot. Momentum was shifting. Our pressure defense finally showed up.

Wahoo came within 2 points with 28 seconds remaining.  They battled the boards and took 3 good shots to make the attempt to tie it up.

“It just wasn’t our night on the floor to shine,” Walker said.

GINW hit 1 of 2 on the line to go up by three. With 15 seconds ticking, the Warriors were not able to get a good shot off.

Wahoo falls to 8-3. Shanahan and Kavan combined for 26 points. Shanahan led in rebounds with 9, and steals with 4. Jordan and Mattie gave out 3 assists each.

Wahoo’s Pressure Takes the Sail Out of the Mercy Monarchs
Record: 8-2
1-13-09
Score: 49-29

From the tip to the 2:58 mark of the first quarter, it was all Warriors. Great passing and finding the open shooter gave Wahoo the edge throughout the first quarter and most of the game.

“The first play of the game was perfect execution. Shanahan tip to Hinrichs, crosscourt passes to Walker, pass into Kavan and lob to Shanahan set the tone. With the help of her teammates, Shanahan set the stage early by taking the ball strong to the hole,” Head Coach Linda Walker.

After Mallory Shanahan hit the first 2 buckets of the game, Mattie Murren lit from the arch where nothing but net gave the Warriors a 6-point lead. Mercy took a time-out to break the momentum, but the Warriors pulled the lead to ten with a couple of quick buckets from Murren, and Emily Brodahl with 2:58 remaining in the 1st quarter. Freshman Sadie Murren beat her defender to find Morgan Hancock on a backdoor cut. Mercy rallied back with solid post play and a big 3-pointer ending the first quarter round 15-9.

The second quarter began with a bang. Jodan Hinrichs skips to Erin Walker, Walker sweet passes to Shanahan for an up and under left-handed flip. The fans went wild. Moving the ball around the perimeter, the ball entered the paint where Taylor Kavan took it on a hard drive, dished it to the corner where Shanahan sunk it.

“We became stuck in the mud on 20 points for a long time, but managed 3 more points before halftime leading 23-18,” Walker added.

The second half didn’t start the way the Warriors planned. Mercy sealed hard and threw the lob into the paint for a quick score, closing the gap to 3 points. A solid rebound and quick outlet by Shanahan led to a great assist by Hinrichs to Walker for a 2. For two and a half minutes both teams struggled to get anything going offensively, until Kavan put herself into excellent position to take the charge.

Throughout the rest of the quarter and into the start of the fourth, things just were moving too fast for either team until all of sudden the Warrior defense went crazy after a made free-throw.

“Mercy didn’t know what hit them the last minutes of the game,” said Walker.

Warriors win by 20.

Mattie Murren led the team in points with 20, and shooting: 78% and 100% from the line, followed by Shanahan for 10. Shanahan led the team in rebounds with 9, followed by Kavan with 7. Walker and Shanahan led the team in steals with 5 each, and Walker led in assists with 4, followed by Sadie Murren and Kavan with 3 each.
