Kindergarten Roundup Held to Introduce Faculty/Facility
Parents Prepare for a Big Change
"Listen to our children" and "leave the toilet seat down" were some of the tips shown on the video that played during Wahoo Elementary's Kindergarten Roundup on Wednesday, March 25. The video was entitled "Ways to Live a Better Life."
This was the first roundup in the new elementary building. Kindergarten roundup provided an evening for parents to explore the new kindergarten classrooms and meet with the kindergarten teachers: Mrs. Larsen, Mrs. Stukenholtz, and Mrs. Drey.
Parents were greeted by Wahoo Elementary Principal Jane Wiebold, the kindergarten teachers and their aides as they entered the building. Parents were given a copy of Parent and Child magazine, health forms, copies of a Wahoo Newspaper insert called "Wahoo Elementary," and a signup form for the upcoming kindergarten children to come and see their new classrooms and teachers.
"The visitation helps the children feel more comfortable with their classrooms and surroundings on the first day of school in the fall. It also helps the teachers become more familiar with the students," Wiebold stated.
"This is the fifth year Wahoo Elementary has had an all-day, everyday, kindergarten," Wiebold added. She stressed that making the children feel comfortable in the school is very important. "We will continue to have three sections among the kindergarten class. I am happy about this because we won't have any class with over 20 students in it."
Wiebold also mentioned that the new school now has a Spanish teacher for grades K-8, Señorita Katrina Rogers. Wiebold feels that this a very good opportunity for children to have. "Researchers say that the younger a child learns a language the easier it is to learn. They absorb more. Researchers also say that it (learning Spanish) helps children learn English," Wiebold said.
After the introduction, parents were allowed to explore the three kindergarten classrooms and listen to the teachers explain their teaching methods. The parents were also free to ask the teachers any questions one-on-one concerning their child's upcoming kindergarten year.
