State Reading and Math Test Results Released
Wahoo Students Score Favorably on the NeSA Tests
by WPS Director of Learning Sue Heine
The NeSA-R (Nebraska State Accountability-Reading) and NeSA-M (Nebraska State Accountability-Math) test results showed Wahoo students performed at a level that compares favorably to statewide averages in reading and math. Wahoo students compared favorably to not only statewide averages, but also to Saunders County and Capitol Conference schools. This is the first year for the statewide math test and its usefulness to local school districts is the establishment of a baseline for comparing future test scores. This information will be looked at as a way to help move students not meeting standards into the “meets standards” grouping and to help those already meeting standards to bring their scores into the “exceeds standards” grouping. Reading results include two years of data. These test scores provide another effective tool to improve teaching and learning for every child.
Parents received reports on their own child/children shortly after the start of the school year.

No single test score can tell the full story about the performance of an individual student, grade, school or district. NeSA tests are a one-time, drop-in and check of student performance on state standards. A child’s teacher will continue to be the best source of information on how well an individual child is learning. Multiple test results should be considered. Just as important as the NeSA state tests are NWEA-MAP testing and classroom test results.
The challenge for Wahoo Public Schools is to continue to use NeSA results to show improvement over time.
