Interesting Facts about Yourself:

"I am one of five children, I grew up on a dairy/hay farm and I was active in 4-H. Marching, contest and concert band and cheerleading were my favorite high school activities. I met my husband at UNL. We have been married for 39 years and we have two children. Jontelle is a professional Dressage trainer and lives with her husband in Ranch Santa Fe, CA, and Darin is in culinary school and lives in Omaha."

Role Models:

"My Mom - she was a great teacher though never worked in a classroom; Mrs. Brunson - the first teacher to recognize my style of learning; Mr. Leigh - my band instructor that taught me the power of self-discipline; Mr. Lindquist - my principal that encouraged me to be a leader; and my husband's grandmother - as a Christian, she loved everyone unconditionally and edified me and my quest for education."

Favorite books and movies:

"I am usually enthralled with whatever I am reading at the time. I have enjoyed too many great reads to list. I like a wide variety of movie genres from Musicals to Science Fiction to Westerns to Walt Disney. A few of my most favorites would be 'Gone with the Wind', 'Dr. Zhivago', 'Grease', 'Moulin Rouge' and 'Chicago'."

What have been the most significant changes in education during your tenure?

"The most significant changes have been the availability of technology to assist the classroom teacher in the development of lessons, assessments, reporting of grades and communication with families and student use of technology to acquire and demonstrate knowledge. Another change has been the increased awareness of how students learn and the accountability of all schools with the No Child Left Behind regulations."

What significant changes do you foresee in the future of education?

"I foresee continued use of technology to reach all students, assess where they are, and continue their educational growth from that point. In addition, I foresee the inclusion of the surrounding community, an increased global perspective, and an individualized education plan for all students."
