The W-Club elected officers for the 2005-06 school year this past week. Co-Presidents are Tom D. and Kaitlyn P, Secretary/Treasurer is Lacy S, and Town Crier is Curtis L. Their leadership has already been seen with the development of the W-Club spirit shirts, ice cream sales at home events, development of a student section in the gym for home games, and support for all activities at Wahoo Public Schools.

WE WILL make this pledge to become part of the solution. WE WILL create an atmosphere at Wahoo High School that fosters excellence in academics, athletics, and activities. WE WILL encourage others to do the same. WE WILL do our part to make Wahoo High School synonymous with excellence. WE WILL set the example for positive school spirit for all students at Wahoo High School. WE WILL take pleasure in knowing that we are committed to something beyond ourselves, and if others wont become part of the solution . . . WE WILL.

The W-Club is a recently reinstated club at Wahoo High and Middle Schools that promotes positive school spirit and the support of all teams, coaches, and athletes.

Its really fun. Go to the games. Be wild! exclaimed W-Club co-president Tom D.

To be a valid member of the W-Club, a student must letter in two major sports (football, volleyball, cross country, softball, basketball, wrestling, track, baseball, or golf) or two activities (cheerleading, dance, band, choir, art club, Spanish Club, student council, FCCLA, FBLA, quiz team, drama, mock trials, or speech), by the first meeting of each year. High school students must also maintain a 2.75 GPA each semester, and if they fail to meet this requirement, they will be put on academic probation for the following semester while they regain their required GPA or decide to drop out of W-Club. In order to retain membership, a member must earn two varsity letters per year. Members must also serve as mentors for all middle school members, who serve as mentors for elementary students.

The W-Club sponsors many activities and events, including eighth grade volleyball and basketball invites and the middle school track invite. They also sponsor invites for Wahoo cross country, wrestling, track, and every other year, they sponsor the Wahoo Holiday Basketball Tournament. They are responsible for supporting all of Wahoo Middle and High Schools athletics in creative, fun and positive ways and serving as Student Ambassadors during home events as well. The W-Club is a major advocate for positive school spirit.

W-Club also offers two Outstanding Senior Athlete Scholarships each year. To receive one of these scholarships, a member must have received seven varsity letters, maintained a 2.75 GPA, and displayed consistent good citizenship. For each years participation in W-Club, a member in high school will receive a letter and a middle school member will receive a certificate.
